Front Garden Landscape Design Renovation (West Lakes).
This was not your typical front garden makeover! In fact it was a home rescue. The original owners of this home had paved the paths, patio and driveway themselves. Unfortunately, they had no idea what they were doing and did not leave the required space between the paving and the damp proof course. Even worse, they didn’t apply a termite barrier.
Consequently, the house was invaded by termites which destroyed approximately one third of all of the timber framing in the front half of the house!
To cater for an increased number of secure and off-road car parking required, plus a motorhome, the couple living at West Lakes required new carport and re-locating the entrance to the current garage, plus a redesign of the entire front garden with lowered paving, correct levels and falls, with garden beds away from the house.
A landscape designer was required to come up with a front garden landscape design for all this!
After contacting Living Pictures By Tony Stanton, the couple booked a concept design session to discuss all their requirements so Tony could then draw up hardscape construction working drawings and a softscape plan to show what plants would be used and where they were to be planted for their front garden renovation project.
The resulting front garden landscape design makeover plans involved redesigning the stormwater drainage, paving, irrigation, and planting together with providing plans for the new carport, plus plans to create new doorways into the garage and brick up the old doorways with the salvaged bricks.
The plan was initially rejected by Council, but finally accepted during arbitration by the Courts. To enable that to be successful, Tony produced a photorealistic sketch to assist the Court reach its positive decision.
The plantings were designed to provide colour and visual appeal to the streetscape whilst also being low maintenance.
Two Weeping Cherry Trees create a frame for the front garden whilst variegated Garlic and Hebe ‘Turkish Delight’ provide contrasting texture and tone.
The variegated garlic is a strappy leafed plant with a white stripe on each leaf edge. The Hebe has a two tone leaf in dark green and burgundy with pink flowers. A simple Creeping Boobialla groundcover provides a simple mid green carpet that visually anchors the plant-scape and out competes the weeds.
Thrilled with the plans, the clients were relieved to know Tony could handle all the logistics involved to turn what was discussed and planned for into reality.
Anyone who’s attempted to find licensed landscapers and tradespeople that are capable of completing what’s required with a good quality finish will know it’s a very time consuming process, fraught with pitfalls and challenges, then not knowing if the work, especially with regards to underground work like stormwater connections and irrigation has been completed correctly.
The 3 steps, or services Living Pictures By Tony Stanton has in place offers customers peace of mind knowing a professional landscape designer is all over the entire landscape design process, from start to finish.
Another happy customer, completely satisfied with their front garden landscape design and with how the project was handled and came together, fulfilling the vision first discussed during the initial concept session.
